A TAREE police operation that has already charged seven teenagers is giving new hope to victims of house break-ins and car theft.
Detectives attached to Taree police station formed Strike Force Zane in response to the number of break, enter and steal and stealing of motor vehicle offences occurring in Taree, Old Bar and surrounding areas.
The strike force has been investigating offences dating back to June this year and has seen seven young people arrested and charged with over 60 offences to date, including 42 break, enter and steals and 11 stolen motor vehicle offences.
Acting commander of the Manning-Great Lakes local area command, A/Superintendent Peter McKenna, has praised the work of detectives on the strike force.
"This has been an example of good old fashioned police work, where the detectives have worked tirelessly to identify and arrest the persons responsible," A/Supt McKenna said.
"It would appear that these offences have allegedly been committed by a core group of persons who have been responsible for a significant amount of crime.
"This strike force has managed to dismantle that group and disrupt their criminal behaviour."
The strike force is ongoing with detectives still following up on a number of leads and suspects, as well as awaiting the results of forensic examinations.
Detective acting inspector Natalie Stephens said the strike force's achievements had also included the return of stolen property to victims of crime.
Det Stephens said a significant amount of property, including jewellery, computers, electronic goods and other household and personal items, had been recovered.
Of the people charged to date, six are juveniles ranging in age from 15 to 17 years and one is a 19 year-old adult.
All have been bailed to appear in Taree Children's Court on October 14 or 21 or to Taree Local Court later this month.
With Strike Force Zane already showing positive results, police are calling on the assistance of the public in continuing its success.
